New technology application cases by value chain
문학중년 2023. 8. 13. 20:02 I think the reason why DT or Smart Factory started to come into the limelight started when digital-based new technology made possible things that were not possible in the past. When an issue arises, while looking for a way to solve the issue, 'Is there any technology with such a function?' If you search for it, you will find that technologies that help solve the issue are already being provided in various forms in the form of commercialized products and services.
The areas of DT are divided into five areas: strategy, organization, business model, value chain, and IT competency. The actual technologies are applied directly to the value chain. The application examples below are simplified representations of only some of the various examples in practice.
The manufacturing part highlighted in orange indicates that it is a Smart Factory area. There are various digital technologies, but in the example below, 'big data', 'AI', 'IoT', 'AR/VR', '3D modeling', 'RPA', 'blockchain', 'robot', 'drone' etc., but in reality, more diverse technologies are being applied on the value chain.

To simplify the technology application flow in the value chain, develop new products by quickly reflecting customer requirements in a digitalized way, effectively predict the purchase time to purchase raw and subsidiary materials competitively, and process optimization or predictive maintenance. It can be said to optimize production. Efficient logistics by utilizing an integrated internal and external value chain, increase satisfaction by providing customer demand or after-sales service in a digital way, automate the entire management flow, utilize AR/VR for employee training, and improve know-how We want to accumulate effectively.
If you look at the application cases of new technologies, you will know that there are many unintentional big data or AI tasks. It is also a reality that there are many requirements for decision-making automation or support through data analysis, regardless of the value chain. It seems that it is time to make scientific decisions based on data rather than making decisions based on personal experience or senses. In addition, tasks such as forecasting often appear due to the requirement to reduce uncertainty in the future.
If you can know the future well, you can effectively increase sales or reduce costs. In the meantime, major decisions have been made based on the long experience and judgment of the person in charge, but it is true that the limits are also clear. And as more and more skilled engineers retire from the field, tacit knowledge is not well transferred to the next generation. Since the post-retirement of skilled workers is a concern, there are many requirements to create a data-based decision-making system before that.

There are various new technologies in the world, but finding the right technology for your organization is also an ability. It is necessary to look for various technologies, investigate whether there are cases where the technology has been applied, and if necessary, benchmark the company to see it with your own eyes. That way, when you have a certain degree of trust, you actually verify it through PoC or Pilot. Through such a verification process, you can make decisions such as whether to introduce it company-wide or look for other technologies.
There are some points to keep in mind when applying new technology. Never forget the essential purpose of performing DT tasks. The practical purpose of the DT assignment is DT-based innovation, but if done wrong, it can end up introducing technologies. For example, if the purpose of a DT task is process optimization through data analysis, and a big data platform is required to do so, the task of optimizing the process may be pushed aside and the task of building a big data platform may become the main task.
Always remember that technology is a tool.
