3 Key Technologies - Cloud, Machine Learning, Generative AI

​The reason digital transformation and smart factories are constantly receiving attention is because of technological advancements. Things that were previously only possible in our imaginations are now becoming reality through digital technology. Today, we take it for granted that we can wirelessly receive and process massive amounts of real-time data, efficiently perform simple, repetitive or difficult tasks that humans do using artificial intelligence, and perform tasks using augmented reality and virtual reality, but these were previously unimaginable. In addition, with the recent emergence of ChatGPT, humans have begun to utilize AI in a new dimension. We are striving to create new value through AI that converses similarly to humans, and as creative cases combining ChatGPT and various technologies emerge, it is expected that this will lead to new technological advancements in the future.

<Figure> is data reconstructed by adding generative AI and cloud based on the technology classification led by ACATECH (German Academy of Engineering), which first proposed Industry 4.0. For reference, Industry 4.0 is a concept similar to smart factories, and mainly includes various technologies related to factories.

As you can see in the <Figure>, there are many important technologies related to digital transformation. However, in this book, the author selected the cloud, which plays a key infrastructure role, as the three key technologies of digital transformation, among various technologies in the form of platforms, machine learning, and generative AI, which are the most important technologies from the perspective of digital transformation that pursues valuable use of data and data-based innovation.

The cloud is a key technology platform that enables rapid application of various new digital technologies. The cloud not only makes it easy to build an infrastructure environment, but also enables rapid utilization of IoT (Internet of Things), big data, and AI platforms. Among them, PaaS (Platform as a Service), which provides various platforms in the form of services, can be said to be the true power of the cloud.

After AlphaGo defeated Lee Sedol in 2015, interest in AI exploded, and the world was shaken once again when ChatGPT appeared on November 30, 2022. Even now, AI is still the biggest topic. This is a result that shows how important AI is as a game changer. Although generative AI is currently receiving a lot of attention, machine learning is still an important technology to pay attention to.

Understanding the fundamentals of cloud, machine learning, and generative AI, which are core technologies of digital transformation, will help you come up with creative ideas for digital transformation. In addition, properly understanding the basic principles of data collection, analysis, and visualization, as well as the core technologies that support them, will become the foundation for successfully leading digital transformation.
